**New Delhi, April 17, 2025** – Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Amarjit Singh Dulat has refuted claims that his new book, “The Chief Minister and the Spy,” portrays former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah as supporting the abrogation of Article 370. Dulat insists the book is an appreciation of Abdullah, emphasizing that the leader was deeply distressed by the move and was not consulted beforehand.
Speaking to ANI, Dulat clarified that Abdullah was “heartbroken” by the abrogation and never endorsed it. He stated that while Abdullah has consistently supported the central government in the past, the government failed to understand Abdullah’s perspective. Dulat also revealed that Abdullah, along with his son Omar Abdullah and an MP, met with the Prime Minister two days before the abrogation, but the details of that meeting remain undisclosed.
Dulat dismissed allegations that his book is a publicity stunt, maintaining that it is a tribute to Abdullah’s leadership and his significant contribution to Kashmir. He expects Abdullah to attend the book launch, despite the controversy. Dulat praised Abdullah as a true nationalist and a leader of immense stature, highlighting the National Conference’s crucial role in Kashmir’s future. He stressed that the book does not depict Abdullah as supporting the Article 370 abrogation, calling contrary reports “nonsense and a media stunt.” He argued that while the abrogation was carried out, it could have been handled differently, through dialogue.
