Thu Apr 17 16:22:33 UTC 2025: ## Facial Recognition App Foils Impersonator at Karnataka CET Exam
**Bengaluru, April 17, 2025** – A new facial recognition system implemented by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) successfully thwarted an impersonation attempt during the second day of the Common Entrance Test (CET)-2025. A woman, identified as Tuba Fathima Jameel, was apprehended attempting to take the mathematics exam using a fraudulently altered admit card belonging to Tabu Naz.
Jameel, who spent nearly an hour in the restroom before the exam began at Silver Valley Public PU College in Malleswaram, was identified as an imposter when her photo was scanned using the KEA’s QR code-based facial recognition app. The app immediately flagged a mismatch between the photo on the admit card and Jameel’s actual face. Before authorities could intervene, Jameel fled the scene.
KEA Executive Director H. Prasanna confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway, with legal action to follow. The college principal has been instructed to submit a detailed report along with video footage of the incident.
The successful detection highlights the effectiveness of the newly implemented technology. Mr. Prasanna expressed satisfaction with the system’s performance, reporting no technical glitches on the second day of its use. He and Administrative Officer Islauvuddin Gadyal personally verified candidates at the Government PU College exam center in Malleswaram, using the app to scan QR codes and instantly verify identities.
Overall, the CET-2025 saw a high turnout, with 92.93% of candidates appearing for the two-day exam. 3,04,186 candidates (91.95%) wrote the mathematics exam, and 2,39,848 (90.90%) wrote the life science exam on Thursday.
