Thu Apr 17 08:44:26 UTC 2025: ## Alappuzha KSRTC Bus Station Gets CCTV Surveillance After Anti-Social Activity Complaints

**ALAPPUZHA, Kerala, April 17, 2025** – The Alappuzha Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus station and surrounding areas are now under 24/7 CCTV surveillance following numerous complaints of anti-social activities. Seven cameras, costing ₹2.5 lakh, have been installed at strategic locations including the bus stand itself, near the fire station, a residential area, and key junctions. The initiative, a collaboration between the Alappuzha district administration and Care for Alleppey (which sponsored the project), aims to enhance safety and deter criminal behavior.

The installation follows a high-level meeting chaired by District Collector Alex Varghese a few months ago, prompted by reports of inappropriate behavior, immoral activities, and even physical assaults at the bus station, particularly at night. The meeting resolved to increase surveillance and improve lighting, leading to the installation of the CCTV system and a previously installed high-mast light at the bus station.

A joint squad comprising police, municipal authorities, excise officials, boat operators, and residents’ associations will conduct regular inspections in the area to further curb anti-social activities. The CCTV footage is being monitored at a control room established at the Alappuzha South Police Station. The CCTV system was inaugurated on Wednesday by the District Collector.
