**Kochi:** Actor Shine Tom Chacko, known for his villainous and character roles in Malayalam cinema, is once again facing allegations of drug use. This isn’t the first time such claims have surfaced against him. Despite being implicated in a 2015 cocaine case, and despite continued reports of substance abuse, film organizations have reportedly taken no significant action.
Chacko’s career began as an assistant director, before he gained recognition through various roles. His involvement in the Kochi cocaine case in 2015, and the subsequent trial which began in 2018, did little to deter further allegations. Reports of his drug use persisted, often overshadowing his successful acting career. While other actors faced similar accusations, Chacko reportedly dismissed his past indiscretions. However, numerous interviews and testimonies contradict his claims.
Even as he achieved success, Chacko’s controversial behavior, including public outbursts and altercations, continued. Yet, neither the AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) nor the Film Chamber intervened effectively. The initial drug case, reportedly the first of its kind in the state, ultimately collapsed due to alleged police negligence and procedural lapses in evidence gathering, as highlighted in the court’s verdict. The prosecution faced serious criticism for its handling of the case.
Now, new complaints alleging serious misconduct against Chacko have emerged. The effectiveness of any investigation will depend on the adherence to scientific procedures. The future of these new allegations hinges on whether a more rigorous investigation can be carried out this time.
