Wed Apr 16 09:11:39 UTC 2025: ## Two Labourers Die in Belagavi Trench Collapse
**Belagavi, April 16, 2025** – Two labourers died in a tragic accident on Monday while digging a trench for a new drinking water pipeline in Belagavi, Karnataka. Basavaraj Sarave, 38, and Maruti Sarave, 20, both from Patagondi village in Gokak, were killed when a section of the trench collapsed, burying them under mud.
Police and fire and emergency services responded to the incident near the national highway in Gandhi Nagar. While two bodies were recovered, rescue efforts were underway for a third labourer who survived the initial collapse. The deceased were transported to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences.
The work was being carried out by a private agency contracted for a city-wide round-the-clock water supply scheme. Mal Maruti police station officers are investigating the incident.
