Wed Apr 16 02:40:00 UTC 2025: **Teen Killed in Shooting at Memphis Food Truck Festival**

MEMPHIS, TN – A teenage boy was fatally shot Sunday evening at Tom Lee Park during a food truck festival, Memphis Police Department (MPD) confirmed. Officers responded to the scene shortly after 6:45 p.m. The victim, whose age and identity are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect is described as a young man, possibly a juvenile, wearing black clothing and a ski mask. MPD is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-2274.

MPD Deputy Chief Webb Kirkdoffer emphasized the importance of event organizers collaborating with the department on security planning. While officers were already in the vicinity and responded swiftly, the festival organizers did not coordinate with MPD beforehand and did not provide security. Kirkdoffer also encouraged citizens and businesses with security cameras to register them with Connect Memphis to aid investigations.

Mayor Paul Young condemned the shooting, calling it “heartbreaking, infuriating, and absolutely unacceptable.” He highlighted this incident as the latest in a series of violent acts in the city, including a mass shooting and a child being shot in their yard. Young pledged continued efforts to combat violence and promised swift prosecution for those responsible. He expressed that public spaces, particularly parks, should be safe havens and vowed to make Memphis stronger and safer.
