**Hyderabad, April 16, 2025** – Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister, M. Bhatti Vikramarka, virtually inaugurated the Naini coal mine in Odisha on Wednesday, marking a significant expansion for the Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL). The event, described as historic by Mr. Vikramarka, represents SCCL’s entry into a new era of global expansion after nine years of delays in obtaining necessary clearances.
The opening ceremony, attended by SCCL officials and Odisha’s local MLA Agasti Behera, signifies the culmination of a year-long effort to secure the necessary permissions and commence operations. Mr. Vikramarka attributed the swift progress to the proactive support of the Telangana government.
The Deputy CM highlighted the Naini coal block as the first step in a broader expansion strategy, hinting at future ventures in other states and countries. He expressed gratitude to various Union and Odisha government officials for their cooperation.
Mr. Vikramarka reaffirmed SCCL’s commitment to the development of the Angul region, promising social responsibility initiatives alongside commercial operations. He further announced plans for a 1,600-megawatt thermal power plant near Naini, contingent on securing land from the Odisha government, to create local employment opportunities.
