**Mangaluru, April 16, 2025** – A former school bus driver, Abhishek Shetty, has been arrested for the murder of 59-year-old autorickshaw driver Mohammed Sharif. The incident, stemming from a road rage dispute, involved a joint investigation by the Kasaragod and Mangaluru city police.
Sharif, a resident of Mulki, went missing on April 9th. His son filed a missing person’s report on April 10th. Sharif’s body was discovered on April 11th in a well near Kunjathur in Kerala, with multiple stab wounds.
Police investigated CCTV footage and witness statements, tracing Sharif’s last known location to Baikampady. They identified Shetty as the suspect, arresting him on April 14th.
Shetty confessed to the crime, claiming he held a grudge against Sharif for refusing to yield right-of-way to his school bus on multiple occasions. This conflict, along with Shetty’s alleged rash driving, led to his dismissal from his job. Shetty reportedly lured Sharif to a secluded location, stabbed him, and disposed of the body.
The Kasaragod police confirmed that Shetty was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the murder. Investigations revealed Shetty has a history of criminal activity, including a mobile theft charge and multiple cannabis-related offenses. The murder weapon has yet to be recovered. The investigation is ongoing.
