**JAKARTA, Indonesia (April 14, 2025)** – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced a significant boost to his nation’s economy, securing a $2 billion investment from Qatar in Indonesia’s newly established sovereign wealth fund, Danantara Indonesia. The investment was confirmed following a meeting between President Subianto and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during the Indonesian president’s five-nation tour of West Asia.
Launched in February with an initial budget of $20 billion, Danantara Indonesia aims to accelerate Indonesia’s annual economic growth from 5% to 8%. The fund will manage government holdings in state-owned companies and is already planning to fund over 20 energy projects worth approximately $40 billion this year.
This is Indonesia’s second sovereign wealth fund, following the Indonesia Investment Authority, which currently holds $10.5 billion in assets. Danantara’s advisory board includes notable figures such as American billionaire Ray Dalio and former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. President Subianto’s tour of the West Asian region is focused on strengthening bilateral ties and attracting further foreign investment.
