**New Delhi, April 16, 2025** – A new NITI Aayog report projects a significant expansion of India’s hand and power tool export market, potentially reaching $25 billion within the next decade. This ambitious goal, according to the report titled “Unlocking $25+ Billion Exports: India’s Hand & Power Tools Sector,” could generate 3.5 million jobs.
The report highlights the substantial global market for hand and power tools, currently valued at approximately $100 billion and projected to reach $190 billion by 2035. While China currently dominates the market with approximately 50% market share in hand tools and 40% in power tools, India’s current export figures are significantly lower – $600 million in hand tools (1.8% market share) and $470 million in power tools (0.7% market share).
To achieve its ambitious target, India aims to capture 10% of the power tool market and 25% of the hand tool market. The report outlines a strategic path to enhance global competitiveness, including fostering innovation within the sector, particularly among MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
However, the report also acknowledges challenges. A 14-17% cost disadvantage compared to China, attributed to higher raw material costs, lower labour productivity, higher interest rates, and increased logistics costs, needs to be addressed.
The NITI Aayog emphasizes that overcoming these challenges will solidify India’s position as a reliable, high-quality global manufacturing hub, unlocking immense economic benefits for the nation.
