Tue Apr 15 22:01:38 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Vokkaliga Community to Decide on Protest Against Caste Census Report

**Bengaluru, April 16, 2025** – The Vokkaliga community in Karnataka is strategizing its response to the Socio-Economic and Educational Survey report, set for Cabinet discussion on Thursday. Following a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Vokkaliga leaders are considering various actions, including protests and potential legal challenges.

The Rajya Vokkaliga Sangha, however, has decided to wait for the Cabinet meeting’s outcome before deciding on its next steps. Sangha president Kenchappa Gowda stated that they may join forces with Veerashaiva-Lingayats and other communities opposed to the report. Mr. Shivakumar convened a further meeting of Vokkaliga leaders late Tuesday evening.

The Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha is expected to hold its own meeting of Lingayat legislators soon, potentially leading to a joint strategy with the Vokkaliga community.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s economic advisor, Basavaraj Rayaraddi, urged the state to accept and forward the report to the central government for inclusion in the Ninth Schedule, citing a precedent set by a previous Congress government in Tamil Nadu. The situation remains tense as the community awaits the Cabinet’s decision and prepares for potential widespread demonstrations.
