**CUPERTINO, CA** – While the iPhone 16 is still fresh off the production line, whispers about its 2025 successor, the iPhone 17, are already flooding the tech world. Apple is reportedly planning a significant redesign, the biggest since the iPhone X, introducing a new model and making drastic changes to the existing lineup.
The most significant change is the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, a remarkably thin device (rumored to be under 6mm thick) with a 6.6-inch display. This new model, positioned as a mid-range option between the standard iPhone 17 and the Pro models, will replace the unpopular iPhone Plus line.
The 2025 lineup will consist of four models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 17 may see a slight display size increase to 6.3 inches, but details remain unclear.
Design changes are extensive. The iPhone 17 Air and Pro models are expected to sport a novel horizontal camera bar, a departure from the traditional vertical arrangement. The standard iPhone 17 is likely to retain its current design. The iPhone 17 Pro models might switch from a titanium to an aluminum frame, incorporating a half-aluminum, half-glass back for improved durability.
Camera upgrades are also on the horizon. All models are rumored to receive a boosted 24-megapixel front-facing camera. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could feature a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system capable of 8K video recording.
Under the hood, all iPhone 17 models are expected to feature ProMotion displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, a technology previously exclusive to Pro models, enabled by LTPO OLED displays. Apple may also debut its own in-house 5G modem and Wi-Fi 7 chip in at least one model, likely the iPhone 17 Air.
Other rumored improvements include a new anti-reflective display material, potentially improved battery removal, and the possibility of vapor chamber cooling for enhanced thermal performance. Pricing is speculated to start at $799 for the iPhone 17, $899 for the iPhone 17 Air, and $999 for the iPhone 17 Pro.
The release date is expected to be September 2025, bringing a wave of innovative features and design changes to Apple’s flagship smartphone lineup. However, as with all rumors, these details remain unconfirmed until official announcement from Apple.
