**Manitou Springs, CO – November 27, 2024** – A 64-year-old Oregon man died Tuesday on the Manitou Incline, a popular but challenging hiking trail near Manitou Springs, Colorado. Authorities responded to a call around 10 a.m. after bystanders found the man unresponsive on the trail. Despite bystander attempts at CPR, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is currently under investigation. Manitou Springs Fire Chief Keith Buckmiller praised the bystanders for their quick response and CPR efforts, highlighting their compassion.
The Manitou Incline, managed by the city of Colorado Springs, features over 2,700 steps and a 2,000-foot elevation gain. City officials are reminding hikers, particularly those visiting from out of state, to carefully assess their physical condition and prepare adequately before attempting the strenuous climb. The Colorado Springs authorities have been notified of the incident.
