HYDERABAD, April 16, 2025 – Doctors at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad have performed a rare and complex neurosurgical procedure, successfully removing a screwdriver embedded in a man’s brain. The screwdriver had penetrated the patient’s right eye and lodged itself in the frontal lobe.

The patient initially sought treatment at a private eye institute on April 8th after sustaining the injury. Following investigations revealing the severity of the situation – the object having pierced the frontal bone and entered the brain – the case was referred to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). However, the patient was subsequently transferred to Gandhi Hospital on April 10th.

Hospital ophthalmologists confirmed that the eyeball itself was unharmed, and the patient was then transferred to the neurosurgery department. The neurosurgical team successfully removed the screwdriver and treated the associated brain injury. The patient is now recovering well under post-operative care. The successful surgery highlights the expertise of the medical team at Gandhi Hospital in handling complex and life-threatening cases.
