Wed Apr 16 08:04:00 UTC 2025: ## BJP Accuses West Bengal CM of Ignoring Hindu Victims of Post-Waqf Bill Violence

**New Delhi, April 16, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, accusing her government of inaction in the face of targeted violence against Hindus following protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The BJP alleges that police allowed rioters free rein, leading to the displacement of many, particularly in Murshidabad district.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Ms. Banerjee’s response, questioning her government’s commitment to basic human values and accusing her of prioritizing vote bank politics over the safety of her citizens. He cited the recent violence and the Chief Minister’s opposition to the Waqf Act as evidence of her alleged insensitivity. Prasad also noted that six BJP-ruled states have moved the Supreme Court in support of the new law.

Prasad claimed the situation reflects the waning days of the Trinamool Congress government and vowed the BJP’s continued fight for the affected population. He challenged Banerjee’s opposition to the Waqf Act, questioning whether she opposed empowering women and Pasmanda Muslims. The BJP’s statements come amidst ongoing Supreme Court hearings on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the deployment of central forces in West Bengal following the Calcutta High Court’s directives.
