Wed Apr 16 05:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Cubs Snap Padres’ 12-Game Home Winning Streak with Walk-Off Win

**SAN DIEGO, CA** – Nico Hoerner’s tenth-inning triple scored Dansby Swanson, giving the Chicago Cubs a thrilling 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres Tuesday night. The win snapped the Padres’ impressive 12-game home winning streak.

Hoerner’s opposite-field hit off reliever Yuki Matsui sent Swanson racing home from second base (automatic runner) and gave the Cubs the lead. Caleb Thielbar then secured his first save, retiring Luis Arraez to end the bottom of the tenth.

Manny Machado provided the Padres’ lone run with a solo home run in the fifth inning, a blast that followed a remarkable nine-pitch at-bat in which two Cubs fielders – Kyle Tucker and Gage Workman – dropped foul pop-ups. This marked Machado’s fifth home run on a ninth pitch or later.

The Cubs tied the game in the sixth, capitalizing on two singles and two sacrifice bunts, with Pete Crow-Armstrong driving in the run. Solid pitching performances were seen from both sides, with Shota Imanaga (Cubs) and Randy Vásquez (Padres) each pitching five innings.

Ryan Pressley earned the win for the Cubs, while the Padres intentionally walked the hot-hitting Fernando Tatis Jr. in the tenth to set up a matchup with Arraez.

The series finale is set for Wednesday, with Matthew Boyd (Cubs) facing Nick Pivetta (Padres).
