**Bengaluru, April 16, 2025** – A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver, identified as Qasim Saab, was killed late on April 14 when a large girder fell from a truck carrying construction materials for the Bengaluru Metro’s airport line. The accident occurred near Kogilu Cross in Yelahanka.
According to police, the 18-wheel truck, transporting the girder from the Vadiyarpura casting yard, was forced to brake suddenly to avoid a collision with another vehicle. This caused the girder to fall, striking and instantly killing Saab. Emergency services recovered Saab’s body using cranes.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing regret and promising compensation to the victim’s family.
