Tue Apr 15 11:17:43 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Group Rejects Caste Census Report, Calls for New Survey
**Mysuru, April 15, 2025** – The Bengaluru North Taluk Vokkaligara Sangha has voiced strong opposition to the Karnataka government’s planned implementation of the Socio Economic and Educational Survey (SEES), also known as the caste census. In a press conference today, M.N. Pillappa, president of the Sangha’s Publicity Committee, labeled the report as “unscientific” and riddled with “loopholes.”
The SEES, conducted in 2015 under the chairmanship of H. Kantharaju, has only recently been accepted by the government. Pillappa argued that significant socio-economic changes over the past decade render the report obsolete and irrelevant. He emphasized the need for thorough examination of the voluminous document before any action is taken, urging the government to instead commission a fresh survey.
Pillappa’s concerns are echoed by leaders from other communities, including Lingayats, and by experts who have also cautioned against relying on outdated data. The Sangha’s call for a new SEES highlights the controversy surrounding the report and its potential impact on Karnataka’s policies.
