MADURAI, April 15, 2025 – The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Madurai arrested a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and a woman on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe. M. Duraipandi, the VAO of Katchirayanpatti, and Backiyalakshmi were apprehended while receiving ₹7,000 from a complainant, ex-serviceman Malaiselvam.
Malaiselvam had inherited 1.65 acres of land and was seeking a name transfer on his land patta. Duraipandi initially demanded ₹10,000 to process the application, later reducing the amount to ₹7,000. Following a complaint, the DVAC laid a trap, leading to the arrests. The case is registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and investigations are ongoing. The arrest was made by a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police, M. Sathyaseelan.
