Mon Apr 14 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Valerie Bertinelli Forbids Van Halen Biopic Until After Her Death; Casts Selena Gomez as Herself

**NEW YORK, NY** – Actress Valerie Bertinelli, known for her role in *One Day at a Time* and her marriage to late Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen, has put a moratorium on any Van Halen biopic – at least until after she’s gone. During a Monday appearance on *The Drew Barrymore Show*, Bertinelli jokingly revealed she’s instructed her stepson, Wolfgang Van Halen, to hold off on any biographical film until her death.

“Oh god, I hope they never do one of Van Halen,” Bertinelli confessed. “Make sure I’m dead. I told Wolfie, ‘Make sure I’m dead.’” Barrymore, playfully skeptical, retorted, “Oh you know they’re gonna do one of Van Halen.”

The conversation then turned to casting. If a biopic were to be made, Bertinelli’s choice for herself is Selena Gomez, though she quickly added a playful caveat: “But Selena, don’t do it! Please don’t do it!” Barrymore enthusiastically agreed with the casting choice.

Bertinelli also addressed the frequent comparison of her to Yoko Ono, dismissing the notion that she broke up Van Halen. She emphasized that the band had its own internal issues and defended Eddie Van Halen against the common blame he receives. “And it wasn’t all Ed’s fault, okay? I’m just gonna put that out there,” she stated. “Everybody loves to blame Ed and he can’t defend himself.”

The interview comes amidst ongoing tensions within the Van Halen family and amongst the band’s surviving members, with recent public spats between Wolfgang Van Halen and former frontman David Lee Roth highlighting the fractured relationships. The *Drew Barrymore Show* airs weekdays on CBS.
