Tue Apr 15 00:46:41 UTC 2025: ## Over 300 Civilians Killed in Renewed Sudan Fighting: UN

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – April 15, 2025** – The United Nations has reported the deaths of over 300 civilians in two days of intense fighting in Sudan’s Darfur region. The attacks, carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group against two displacement camps, Zamzam and Abu Shorouk, and the capital of North Darfur, El Fasher, occurred on Friday and Saturday. Initial reports indicated over 100 deaths, including children and aid workers, but the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revised the figure upwards based on local sources. The UN has confirmed that ten Relief International personnel were among the casualties.

The violence comes as Sudan’s brutal civil war, which began April 15, 2023, approaches its two-year mark. The conflict has already claimed at least 24,000 lives according to UN figures, a number activists believe is a significant undercount. The recent attacks followed a recent military victory over the RSF in Khartoum.

The escalating conflict has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, resulting in the displacement of almost 13 million Sudanese, including 4 million who have sought refuge in neighboring countries. The UN refugee agency is appealing for $1.8 billion in aid, but has only received 10% of the requested funds. The agency warns of a potential mass migration towards Southern Africa, East Africa, the Gulf, and Europe if further funding is not secured.

The attacks have displaced an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 families, mainly residing within El Fasher, itself under siege for over a year. A London conference is planned for Tuesday, marking the second anniversary of the war. The UN is urging international cooperation to promote peace and prevent further escalation. The UN Security Council is also scheduled to hold emergency consultations on the situation.
