**Haridwar, Uttarakhand –** Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was honored Monday by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Mahamanch for his government’s implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The event, held at BHEL Ground in Haridwar to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, drew thousands of attendees.
CM Dhami lauded Ambedkar’s vision, emphasizing the importance of equal rights for all citizens as the foundation of true societal equality. He framed the UCC as a crucial step towards achieving this vision, a concept he said was unjustly sidelined in the past. He contrasted this with the current government’s commitment to realizing Ambedkar’s dream, characterizing it as a bold step towards a “new India.”
Dhami attributed the UCC’s implementation to the strong political will of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed gratitude for the public’s support. He described Uttarakhand’s move as a landmark achievement, transforming the principle of equality from a theoretical concept into a practical reality.
Further solidifying the state’s commitment to Ambedkar’s legacy, Dhami announced the construction of the Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar, a center dedicated to educating future generations about social reformers from Scheduled communities and the Indian Constitution. Additional initiatives include the construction of multipurpose buildings in Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe areas and special awareness programs in schools and colleges.
