**GUWAHATI, April 15, 2025** – Despite recent anti-Aadhaar protests in Shillong, Meghalaya has been recognized by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as the top-performing state in two key areas: mandatory biometric updates for children and adult Aadhaar enrolment verification.
The awards were presented to Shai Kupar War, the state’s Aadhaar nodal officer, in New Delhi on April 8th. The state government lauded the achievement as a testament to the dedication of its Aadhaar team.
This recognition comes on the heels of a public rally on April 7th organized by the Meghalaya unit of Awaken India Movement, protesting the mandatory linking of Aadhaar numbers to government benefits. The state government countered these protests, deeming them illogical.
