**Chennai, April 15, 2025** – A 40-year-old pushcart vendor, E. Poongavanam, was arrested on Monday for assaulting a Chennai Corporation health inspector during a raid targeting the use of banned polythene bags.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday when a team of health inspectors, including Balaguru, conducted raids on vendors using banned plastic bags. Poongavanam allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted Balaguru while threatening the inspection team. A complaint filed by Balaguru led to Poongavanam’s arrest from Kalaivanar Nagar, Padi. The arrested vendor is currently facing charges related to assault and obstructing government officials in the performance of their duties.
