Mon Apr 14 21:47:03 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Minister Condemns NCERT’s Hindi Textbook Titles
**Thiruvananthapuram, April 15, 2025** – Kerala’s General Education Minister, V. Sivankutty, has strongly criticized the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT) reported decision to use Hindi titles for English-medium textbooks. He denounced the move as “a serious irrationality and a cultural imposition” that undermines India’s linguistic diversity.
Minister Sivankutty argued that replacing established English titles with Hindi alternatives, citing examples like “Mridangam” and “Santoor,” is inappropriate and contradicts Kerala’s commitment to preserving its linguistic heritage and regional autonomy. He emphasized that textbook titles significantly influence students’ perceptions and imaginations, and English-medium students should have English titles.
The Minister further asserted that the NCERT’s decision violates federal principles and constitutional values. He called on the NCERT to reverse its decision and urged all states to oppose such impositions, advocating for education as a tool for empowerment and consensus, not cultural dominance.
