Mon Apr 14 21:07:53 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Ceasefire Talks Stall as Hamas Rejects Israeli Proposal

**Cairo, Egypt – April 15, 2025** – Mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza have hit a snag, with Hamas rejecting a new Israeli proposal. According to Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV, Egypt presented the proposal on Monday, but a senior Hamas official, Sami Abu Zuhri, stated that key elements were unacceptable.

The main point of contention is Israel’s demand for Hamas disarmament, a condition included for the first time in the proposal. Abu Zuhri called this a “million red lines,” emphasizing that Hamas would not consider surrendering its weapons. He also stated that the proposal failed to meet the core Palestinian demand for a complete cessation of hostilities and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Hamas maintains its willingness to release the remaining Israeli hostages in a single exchange, contingent upon an end to the conflict and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces. The current round of talks in Cairo, following the resumption of Israeli hostilities in March, yielded no significant progress.

Since the renewed offensive, over 1,500 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza health authorities, with hundreds of thousands displaced and the Gaza Strip under blockade. Israel, meanwhile, reports that 59 of its citizens remain held hostage, with an estimated 24 believed to be alive. The ongoing conflict continues to cause immense humanitarian suffering and raises concerns about a lasting resolution.
