Tue Apr 15 12:11:51 UTC 2025: ## Punjab Opposition Leader Accused of Spreading False Alarm, Faces Police Case

**Chandigarh, April 15, 2025** – Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, is facing a police case after claiming that “50 bombs” had entered the state. Mr. Bajwa, a Punjab Congress leader, maintains his statement was not political rhetoric but a warning based on credible sources, intended to prompt government action.

In an interview with The Hindu following his questioning by the cyber cell, Mr. Bajwa denounced the case as an act of political vendetta by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He rejected accusations from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of engaging in “politics of threat and panic” and having “links with Pakistan,” calling them baseless and defamatory. The state government has filed charges against Mr. Bajwa under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Further accusations from AAP’s Punjab chief, Aman Arora, alleging Mr. Bajwa’s involvement in the state’s drug cartel, were also dismissed as baseless mudslinging aimed at distracting from the government’s failures. Mr. Bajwa challenged Arora to present any evidence in court.

Despite the strained relationship between the AAP and Congress in Punjab, Mr. Bajwa reaffirmed the Congress’ commitment to the INDIA bloc, emphasizing that while the fight against the AAP government’s misgovernance in Punjab remains a priority, the national-level alliance prioritizes safeguarding democracy and federalism.
