**Davangere, Karnataka –** Five men have been arrested in Davangere, Karnataka, for the public assault of a woman, police confirmed on April 15th. The assault, which occurred on April 9th in Tavarkere village, was captured on video and widely circulated on social media over the past two days. The videos show a group of men beating the burkha-clad woman with sticks and pipes while hurling abusive insults, accusing her of infidelity.
The woman, who has filed a complaint, identified her attackers as relatives. Police have arrested Mohammad Nayaz, Mohammad Ghouse, Mohammad Rasool, Inayat Ullah, and Chand Pasha. They are charged with intimidation, insult, assault, and attempted murder and have been remanded in judicial custody.
Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant stated that an investigation is ongoing.
