**New Delhi, April 15, 2025** – A former Indian Army driver, Anil Kumar Tiwari, 58, has been apprehended in Madhya Pradesh after evading authorities for over two decades. Tiwari was originally sentenced to life imprisonment in 1989 for the murder of his wife in Delhi. He strangled and set his wife on fire, attempting to stage the death as a suicide.
Tiwari escaped in 2005 while on a two-week parole granted by the Delhi High Court. According to Delhi Police’s Crime Branch DCP Aditya Gautam, Tiwari successfully evaded capture for 20 years by avoiding mobile phones, using only cash, and frequently changing jobs and residences. He has since remarried and fathered four children.
Tiwari’s arrest, which took place on April 12th in his native village in Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh, marks the culmination of a lengthy investigation. The Delhi Police praised the Crime Branch’s efforts in tracking down the fugitive.
