Tue Apr 15 01:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Blue Jackets Sweep Capitals in Home-and-Home Series

**Washington, D.C. –** The Columbus Blue Jackets completed a weekend sweep of the Washington Capitals, defeating them 4-1 on Sunday in their final regular season home game. This victory follows a 7-0 rout of the Capitals in Columbus on Saturday.

Despite a more competitive performance on Sunday, the Capitals ultimately fell short. While Washington controlled possession and generated more scoring chances, they were unable to overcome Columbus goaltender Jet Greaves, who made 29 saves after allowing Ovechkin’s early goal. Greaves has now excelled in all three of his career starts against Washington.

Alex Ovechkin gave the Capitals an early 1-0 lead, assisted by Dylan Strome, but Zach Werenski quickly tied the game for Columbus. Adam Fantilli then scored two goals, one on a power play, giving the Blue Jackets the lead and ultimately securing the win. Pavel Voronkov added an empty-net goal to seal the 4-1 victory.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbery acknowledged his team’s improved play on Sunday, highlighting their puck possession and chances, but emphasized the need for better results. Tom Wilson echoed similar sentiments, pointing to the team’s struggles in generating offense in the final stages of the season against a desperate opponent.

The win keeps Columbus’s playoff hopes alive, albeit slim. They must win their final two games and require favorable results from the Montreal Canadiens. Blue Jackets coach Dean Evason stated his team’s commitment to battling for a playoff berth.
