Tue Apr 15 14:55:31 UTC 2025: ## Thiruvananthapuram to Expand Nightlife with New “Night Street”
**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 15, 2025** – Thiruvananthapuram, known for its early-to-bed reputation, is embracing a more vibrant nightlife. A new “night street,” modeled after the successful Manaveeyam Veedhi, is under construction in Palayam. The project, a part of the city Corporation’s Smart City initiative and in collaboration with the Kerala Road Fund Board, will transform a stretch of road from University College to the University Library.
Improvements include specially designed streetlights, a small stage for performances, wider, accessible walkways, a video wall displaying corporation updates, food stalls, and landscaping. Completion is expected by May or June.
While the success of Manaveeyam Veedhi, launched in October 2023, initially saw minor controversies, it has since become a popular spot for families and young people alike, remaining active late into the night. Security measures, including police presence, have helped maintain a safe environment.
The city corporation and Tourism department are exploring further expansion of nightlife, with the Kowdiar-Pattom area considered, though facing resistance from local residents. Whether traffic restrictions will be implemented on the new Palayam street remains to be determined.
