Tue Apr 15 14:10:41 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh BSP Leader Condemns Amaravati Land Acquisition
**Visakhapatnam, April 15, 2025** – The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Andhra Pradesh coordinator and former DGP, J. Purnachandra Rao, has strongly criticized the state government’s plan to acquire an additional 44,000 acres of land for the Amaravati capital project. Mr. Rao alleges the move will primarily benefit corporate interests at the expense of farmers.
He claims that the 60,000 acres already acquired are sufficient and demands their return, urging the government to confine the capital to the existing land. Mr. Rao questioned the necessity of acquiring such a vast area, pointing out that existing airports in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, along with the upcoming Bhogapuram airport (requiring only 2,700 acres), adequately serve the region. He argued that efficient development of the existing land would benefit surrounding farmers, rather than prioritizing corporate agendas. The BSP leader called the government’s actions a “serious blow” to farmers’ interests.
