Tue Apr 15 09:37:17 UTC 2025: ## AIADMK MLAs Walk Out of Tamil Nadu Assembly Over Denied Debate
**Chennai, April 15, 2025** – Members of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly today, protesting Speaker M. Appavu’s refusal to allow them to raise key issues during the Zero Hour.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition, R.B. Udhayakumar, stated that the Speaker consistently prevents the principal opposition party from raising important matters. The AIADMK had sought to move a no-confidence motion against Ministers K.N. Nehru (Municipal Administration and Water Supply), K. Ponmudy (Forests and Khadi), and V. Senthilbalaji (Electricity, Prohibition and Excise).
Udhayakumar cited ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving Nehru and his family, and a reported ₹1,000 crore scam uncovered at the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). He also condemned Ponmudy’s recent controversial remarks against the Hindu religion and women, calling for his dismissal from the cabinet.
The Speaker justified his actions by stating that the Chief Minister would make a suo motu statement under Assembly Rule 110. Udhayakumar countered that this practice prevents proper debate and discussion of crucial issues. He further criticized the Chief Minister’s announcement of a high-level committee to study Centre-State relations, alleging it was a diversionary tactic. The AIADMK questioned the DMK’s silence on Centre-State relations during their previous alliance with the central government.
