Mon Apr 14 09:23:19 UTC 2025: ## Modi Slams Congress Over Waqf Act, Kharge Fires Back on Ambedkar Legacy

**Hisar, Haryana:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of appeasing Muslim fundamentalists and opposing the amended Waqf Act for political gain. Speaking at the inauguration of the Hisar airport, Modi linked his government’s policies to the legacy of B.R. Ambedkar, whose birth anniversary was also observed today. He criticized the Congress for its alleged failure to uplift marginalized communities and accused the party of repeatedly insulting Ambedkar.

Modi challenged the Congress to demonstrate its commitment to Muslim welfare by appointing a Muslim president and reserving 50% of its election tickets for Muslim candidates. He argued that the amended Waqf Act would protect the rights of poor Muslims and prevent land grabbing by mafias, ensuring that Waqf properties are used for the benefit of the community. He claimed that the previous Waqf Act allowed for exploitation and that the Congress’s changes to it were unconstitutional.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge countered Modi’s accusations, emphasizing Ambedkar’s focus on education and accusing the BJP of merely paying lip service to his ideals. Kharge highlighted Congress’s support for the Women’s Reservation Bill, advocating for sub-categorization within the reservation to ensure representation of SC, ST, and OBC women. He also challenged the BJP to highlight its own adherence to Ambedkar’s principles, reminding them that it was the Congress that appointed Ambedkar to the Constituent Assembly. The exchange marks a significant escalation in the political rhetoric surrounding the amended Waqf Act and the legacy of B.R. Ambedkar.
