Sun Apr 13 16:02:59 UTC 2025: ## US National Security Advisor Postpones India Visit Amidst Security Breach Scandal

**New Delhi, April 13, 2025** – The planned visit of U.S. National Security Advisor (NSA) Michael Waltz to India, scheduled for April 21-23, has been postponed. The postponement follows a series of security breaches within the U.S. National Security Council, including Waltz’s own office.

Sources confirmed to *The Hindu* that Waltz’s office informed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and NSA Ajit Doval’s office of the postponement. The visit was to include meetings with high-level officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and participation in the annual U.S.-India Forum. Waltz was also expected to attend a preliminary meeting of the TRUST mechanism, the successor to the iCET initiative.

While official reasons for the cancellation haven’t been publicly stated, the postponement comes amidst significant media attention in the U.S. surrounding the so-called “Signalgate” controversy. This controversy involves Waltz inadvertently adding a journalist to a secure Signal chat where sensitive information, including details of upcoming military operations, was discussed. Reports indicate further breaches involving Waltz’s use of personal email accounts for official communication and the maintenance of other insecure Signal chats relating to foreign policy issues.

Although the White House has expressed continued support for Waltz, the incidents have caused considerable embarrassment. Speculation suggests that the postponement may be directly related to the ongoing fallout from the security breaches. Sources indicate a possible rescheduling of the visit in the coming months, potentially coinciding with the next Indus-X event.

Meanwhile, there are reports that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, currently in India on a largely private visit, may attend the U.S.-India Forum in Waltz’s place. Mr. Vance is scheduled to be hosted by Prime Minister Modi before Modi’s departure for Saudi Arabia.
