Sun Apr 13 20:31:46 UTC 2025: **Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Meet with University Officials Following Supreme Court Ruling**

Chennai, April 14, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will convene a meeting with Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of all state universities on April 16th to discuss improvements in higher education. This follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling last week declaring that several university-related Bills, previously stalled, are now law.

The meeting comes a day after the state government notified 10 university-related Acts, the first to become law without the Governor’s assent, thanks to the Supreme Court decision. While the Chief Minister has previously met with university officials, this meeting holds added significance given the recent legal developments and the upcoming discussion of the Higher Education Department’s budget in the Assembly on April 24th.

The government’s action is seen as a direct response to instances where some Vice-Chancellors, appointed by former Governor R.N. Ravi, allegedly disregarded directives from the Higher Education Department. Mr. Ravi’s vocal support for the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, contrasting with the Tamil Nadu government’s development of its own state education policy, further fueled the tension. The notification of the Acts is intended to ensure compliance with government policy going forward.
