Mon Apr 14 11:45:40 UTC 2025: ## West Bengal Sends List of ‘Tainted’ and ‘Untainted’ Teachers to State for Verification

**Kolkata, April 14, 2025** – Amidst ongoing protests by sacked teachers, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has submitted a list categorizing candidates as “tainted” or “untainted” to the state education department for review. The list, sent on April 13th, follows a Supreme Court order on April 3rd that invalidated the appointments of approximately 26,000 teaching and non-teaching staff due to irregularities in the 2016 recruitment process.

The WBSSC categorized “tainted” candidates as those with discrepancies in their OMR sheets or those suspected of securing jobs fraudulently. “Untainted” candidates are those believed to have qualified purely on merit. A senior official confirmed the list’s submission and ongoing cross-verification process.

Education Minister Bratya Basu previously announced the list would be publicly available on the WBSSC website by April 21st, pending legal review. While the WBSSC chairman remained unavailable for comment, the move follows protests from dismissed teachers who argue the commission failed to differentiate between legitimately and fraudulently appointed individuals. Protesters maintain they are “untainted” and urge reinstatement.
