Mon Apr 14 13:14:14 UTC 2025: ## Tripura CPI(M) Demands Removal of Lord Ram Idol Installed on Site of Demolished Communist Leader’s Statue

**GUWAHATI, April 14, 2025** – The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in Tripura has called on Chief Minister Manik Saha to remove a newly installed Lord Ram idol. The idol was placed on the pedestal previously occupied by a statue of former Deputy Chief Minister Baidyanath Majumder, which was demolished in 2018 after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power.

CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury stated that the idol was installed without permission on April 11th at a prominent tri-junction in Kailashahar. He criticized the action as being against Tripura’s culture and traditions. Chaudhury noted that the original statue of Majumder, a highly respected political figure, was removed and discarded in the Manu River after the 2018 elections, despite promises from then-Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to reinstall it.

Chaudhury’s letter to the Chief Minister requests the relocation of the Lord Ram idol and the restoration of Majumder’s statue. The BJP’s Unakoti district president, Bimal Kar, has denied any party involvement in the idol’s installation. The incident highlights ongoing political tensions in the state.
