**Hyderabad, April 14, 2025** – The Telangana government will seek public input on a draft bill aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of gig and platform workers, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced today. The draft bill, which promises job security, insurance coverage, and other benefits, will be made available online for public review until April 25th.
This move follows a meeting between the Chief Minister, gig workers, union representatives, and government officials. The bill, intended to be implemented by May 1st, International Labour Day, aims to address concerns of over four lakh gig workers in the state engaged in various sectors like food delivery, transportation, and package delivery.
Mr. Reddy emphasized the need for a comprehensive bill and urged officials to incorporate suggestions and objections received during the public consultation period. He also suggested modifications to foster better relations between companies, aggregators, and workers.
The initiative builds on a December 2023 government order providing ₹5 lakh accidental insurance coverage to the families of deceased gig workers. The Chief Minister expressed his hope that the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Bill will serve as a national model.
