SANTA MONICA, CA – Santa Monica Police are investigating a fatal dog attack that occurred last Friday near the intersection of Main and Strand streets. An unleashed pit bull fatally attacked an 11-year-old toy poodle named Dublin, leaving its owners, Alyssa Kluge and Christopher Dietrick, devastated.
The attack, captured partially on a Ring doorbell camera, showed the pit bull violently attacking Dublin. Dietrick attempted to intervene and was also bitten. The pit bull’s owner, described as slow to react and inattentive, fled the scene with the dog after the attack.
Dublin, described by his owners as a loving and playful dog, died in Kluge’s arms despite efforts to rush him to a nearby animal hospital. The couple is heartbroken by the loss and are now pleading for the pit bull owner to come forward. They are not seeking retribution, but rather accountability for the tragic incident.
Santa Monica Police are emphasizing the public safety risk posed by the unidentified pit bull and its owner. They are urging anyone with information about the incident or the owner to contact Santa Monica Animal Control at 310-458-8595. The couple has also begun distributing flyers in their neighborhood in hopes of generating leads.
