**GUWAHATI, April 14, 2025** – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Northeast’s first robotic surgery facility at the State Cancer Institute of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Sunday. The ₹14.99 crore facility, funded under the Centre’s National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Stroke, features state-of-the-art equipment for minimally invasive oncological surgeries.
The Chief Minister highlighted the facility’s use of “MADE IN INDIA” machinery, enabling low-cost, highly precise cancer care. He announced plans to establish similar facilities at medical colleges in Dibrugarh and Silchar, and to launch nursing colleges at all cancer hospitals to ensure sufficient trained personnel. The new technology offers enhanced precision, superior control, and 3D visualization, leading to improved patient outcomes. The inauguration coincided with the start of the Bohag Bihu celebrations, a significant cultural event in Assam.
