Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu – Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has pledged to repeal the recently amended Waqf Act if the Congress-led alliance wins the upcoming parliamentary elections. Speaking at a protest organized by Jamiat Ulama i-Hind in Sivaganga on Sunday, Chidambaram urged Muslims to utilize their voting power to counter the amendment, which he described as an orchestrated attack targeting the Muslim community.

He argued that the amendment, allowing non-Muslims to administer Muslim religious matters, violates fundamental rights and would spark outrage if applied similarly to Hindu religious institutions. Chidambaram expressed confidence in the Supreme Court’s impartiality and predicted a favorable judgment against the amendment. He emphasized the importance of recognizing political allies who support the Muslim community’s interests during the election. The protest was also attended by Minister for Co-operatives K.R. Periyakaruppan. Chidambaram reiterated the Congress party’s and the DMK government’s support for Muslim causes.
