**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, April 14, 2025** – A large-scale celebration to commemorate the birth anniversary of 12th-century social reformer Basavanna is planned for Kalaburagi from April 27th to 30th. The event, organized by the Basava Jayanti Celebration Committee, headed by Afzalpur MLA M.Y. Patil, is expected to draw over 25,000 participants.
The celebrations will kick off with a car rally on April 27th, followed by a women’s bike rally. The main public meeting will be held on April 29th at the Sharana Basaveshwara Jatra Maidan. The government will also host an official ceremony near the Basavanna statue at Jagat Circle on April 30th, including a grand procession with cultural performances.
A special book featuring 50 selected Vachanas (hymns) for daily recitation will be released during the event. MLA Patil emphasized the unity of Basavanna’s followers, noting that ministers and MLAs from across party lines are collaborating on the celebrations. The event aims to promote Basavanna’s principles of Kayaka (physical labor) and Dasoha (feeding the needy), and to strengthen the community through the study of Vachana literature. Several preparatory meetings are scheduled across various towns and wards in the coming days.
