**Washington D.C.** – A declassified CIA document detailing a purported 1900s encounter between Soviet soldiers and a UFO is making headlines again, years after its initial release. The 250-page KGB report, obtained by the CIA following the collapse of the Soviet Union, describes a bizarre incident during a military exercise in Ukraine.
According to the report, Soviet troops fired upon a “saucer-shaped spaceship,” causing it to crash. Five small, humanoid beings emerged, then combined into a glowing sphere that reportedly petrified 23 soldiers with a blinding light. Only two soldiers, shielded from the direct blast, survived.
The KGB allegedly secured the “petrified soldiers” and the damaged spacecraft, transporting them to a secret Moscow facility. Soviet scientists reportedly determined the light transformed the soldiers’ cells into limestone.
The CIA, in its assessment of the KGB report, concluded that the incident highlights alarmingly advanced extraterrestrial weaponry and a capacity for forceful self-defense.
While the story initially gained traction in the Canadian Weekly World News and the Ukrainian paper Holos Ukrayiny after the document’s declassification in 2000, recent renewed interest in UFOs has propelled the report to viral status. This renewed interest is partly fueled by the Department of Defense’s 2020 establishment of the UAP Task Force and subsequent release of government files on unidentified aerial phenomena. The report’s recent feature on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast has also contributed to its widespread circulation.
The authenticity of the KGB report remains unverified, but its contents continue to fuel speculation and debate surrounding the existence of extraterrestrial life and advanced technology.
