**Coimbatore, April 14, 2025** – The ₹646.71 crore 24/7 drinking water supply project in Coimbatore is progressing, despite encountering some challenges. Implemented by Suez across 60 wards, the project is nearing completion in the city’s interior areas. While rumors circulated regarding the Coimbatore Corporation taking over work on Dr. Krishnaswamy Road due to alleged delays and negligence by Suez, officials have denied this, stating that Suez remains responsible for all work, including sections along highways and main roads. The corporation has however, instructed Suez to expedite the process.
Current work focuses on Mettupalayam Road and near the Kikani School junction. A significant challenge lies in laying a 5.5-meter long, 800 mm diameter pipeline between Avinashilingam University and Chinthamani junctions. The presence of the North Coimbatore flyover underpass necessitates an above-ground pipeline section through a corporation-maintained garden beneath the flyover, adding complexity and slowing progress due to the need for large trenches and careful navigation of existing utility lines.
Once this challenging stretch is completed (expected within a month), the pipeline will connect to Dr. Krishnaswamy Road via Chinthamani junction. Road re-laying will follow the completion of pipeline testing. The project aims to deliver a 24/7 water supply to the city.
