**CHAPEL HILL, NC –** Jarin Stevenson, a highly touted forward who recently entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, is returning to his North Carolina roots. The 6-foot-11 rising junior announced his commitment to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, according to On3’s Joe Tipton. Stevenson, a former four-star recruit and the top prospect in North Carolina in the Class of 2023, spent the last two seasons playing for the University of Alabama.
Stevenson, whose mother won three ACC championships playing for UNC, had initially been considered a favorite to join the Tar Heels coming out of high school but ultimately chose Alabama. In two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He started 27 games during his time in Tuscaloosa.
The Tar Heels are looking to rebuild after a disappointing 2024-25 season that saw them squeak into the NCAA Tournament as a controversial last-minute addition, before ultimately bowing out in the first round. Stevenson will bring two years of eligibility to a UNC team hoping to bolster its frontcourt. His return to Chapel Hill adds significant talent and local appeal to the program.
