Mon Apr 14 06:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Super Kings Sign Ayush Mhatre as Replacement for Injured Ruturaj Gaikwad
**Lucknow, April 14** – The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed young Mumbai opener Ayush Mhatre as a replacement for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been ruled out of the IPL season with an elbow fracture. The struggling franchise, currently at the bottom of the points table with only one win, made the announcement late Saturday.
Mhatre, who went unsold at the IPL auction with a base price of ₹30 lakh, will join the team in Mumbai in a couple of days. He was chosen after trials alongside several other players, including Prithvi Shaw. The 17-year-old is highly touted in Mumbai cricket circles, having already amassed impressive scores in first-class and List A matches.
CSK, currently in Lucknow preparing for their match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, will be hoping Mhatre’s inclusion can provide a much-needed boost to their struggling campaign. Their next match is against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20th.
