Mon Apr 14 08:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Indian Stock Markets Closed for Ambedkar Jayanti, Global Uncertainty Remains
**Mumbai, April 14, 2025** – Indian stock markets, including the benchmark Sensex and Nifty, are closed today for Ambedkar Jayanti, providing a long weekend breather for traders after weeks of volatile trading. The closure comes amidst ongoing global uncertainty, primarily stemming from US-China trade tensions and fluctuating global tariffs.
Recent market fluctuations have been heavily influenced by decisions from US President Donald Trump regarding global trade tariffs, causing instability in international markets and impacting Indian stocks. While the markets will reopen on Tuesday, April 15th, the trading week will be shortened again by the Good Friday holiday on April 18th.
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will operate only during its morning session today. Other upcoming stock market holidays in 2025 include Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra, Diwali Balipratipada, Gurpurb, and Christmas. A special Muhurat Trading session is also planned for Diwali.
Last week saw the Nifty50 index briefly fall to June 2024 levels before recovering slightly. Market analysts anticipate continued caution this week due to global uncertainties. Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Limited, highlighted the importance of ongoing India-US trade negotiations and the potential impact on the domestic market. He also noted the positive influence of easing interest rates and low inflation on investor sentiment, suggesting a balanced portfolio for long-term gains. However, he expects caution to prevail due to the truncated trading week.
