**YANGON, MYANMAR –** A Japanese national has been confirmed dead following the recent earthquake that struck central Myanmar, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today. The individual, who had been reported missing in the Mandalay region near the epicenter, was found deceased under rubble. This is the first confirmed Japanese fatality from the earthquake.

The Japanese government had previously requested assistance from Myanmar authorities in the search efforts. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family and pledged full support. He also extended his gratitude to Myanmar rescue personnel for their work.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that two Japanese citizens in Myanmar and one in neighboring Thailand sustained injuries in the quake. The ministry continues to monitor the situation.
