**JAIPUR, April 13, 2025** – Work has begun on the revival of the historic Ramgarh lake near Jaipur, Rajasthan, a project costing ₹2.53 crore. Dry since 2000 due to encroachments and obstructions in its catchment area, the lake, built in 1876 by erstwhile Jaipur ruler Sawai Ram Singh II, was once a vital water source for the city and hosted the 1982 Asian Games rowing events.

Water Resources Minister Suresh Singh Rawat laid the foundation stone for the repair and beautification works. Water from the Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal link project will be supplied to the dam, primarily for drinking purposes. This project, integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project, has a provision to supply water to various irrigation projects and dams in the area. An agreement for its implementation was signed between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in December 2024.

The 12-month project includes repairing the dam’s embankment road, constructing a parapet wall, renovating the control room and stairs, and stone pitching on the slope. The Rajasthan government has already cleared 323.30 hectares of land near the dam, removing obstructions and demolishing illegal anicuts per a Rajasthan High Court order. Minister Rawat emphasized the government’s commitment to reviving the lake while preserving its heritage. Jaipur Rural MP Rao Rajendra Singh also attended the ceremony.
